As a travel and commercial photographer, my eye was immediately drawn to the historic Reykjavik Grammar School during my visit to Iceland. Captured in this photograph, the school’s grand wooden architecture stands as a testament to its storied past. After taking the shot, I delved into its history and learned from Birgit Abrecht’s ‘Discover Icelandic Architecture’ about its significance. Built in 1844, it was once the largest wooden structure in Iceland and served as the meeting place for the Icelandic Parliament. Today, it continues to educate as the Reykjavik High School. These images capture not just a building and its grounds, but a piece of Icelandic heritage.
