UT Libraries hosted a lecture last week with Paul Stekler on politics as presented through film making. I was familiar with several of the political documentaries that Stekler had produced prior to his talk. I learned a lot at the talk and am thankful for PCL and the UT Libraries hosting lectures like Stekler’s.
At the talk’s outset, Stekler screened his reel, which features excerpts from all of his critically acclaimed political films. Footage of Maggie Lauterer is one of the standouts of Paul’s reel. It made me want to learn more about Maggie’s story.
Embedded below is an excerpt from Vote for Me featuring Maggie’s unusual style of politics. Stekler has a knack for finding lesser known characters like Lauterer and providing authentic and unique perspectives on some of the country’s most prominent political figures.
