Recently, the San Diego Union Tribune wanted to make the launch of a new niche publication as successful as possible, so they engaged one of the country’s leading experts in that niche to assist, David Flash at the Research Valley Press.
Flash serves as the Editor and Publisher of local Bryan-College Station print publications Brazos Business, Brazos Home, Brazos VIP Magazine, Bryan-College Station Scene, Campus VIP Magazine, Eat BCS, and the Research Valley Press and online deal and local marketplace sites BrazosVIP.com, BrazosVIPGifts.com, and CampusVIP.net.
He enjoys working closely with local advertising clients across a wide variety of industries, from auto care to restaurants to home improvements. He helps them to create response-oriented ad campaigns that bring in more dollars than they spend, and employ tracking methodologies that enable them to know that for sure.
Flash also enjoys helping other publications launch and grow in markets outside Bryan-College Station.
“Consulting is a great way to stay sharp. To learn new tactics and strategies from larger markets across the country and to ultimately help local customers by using what I learn.” says Flash.
“For example, I learned a simple yet profound nugget of wisdom that I will forever use in launching new publications from the client on a recent project. Just like my advertising clients running their own chains of pizza shops and remodeling companies, my consulting clients running successful media outlets also teach and inspire me.”
“Plus, it’s also fun to apply things that work in the Research Valley, my “lab,” to places like San Diego, Phoenix, and Princeton. It goes both ways, the learning and application of knowledge.”
While this was Flash’s first time to work with the Union Tribune and its $1.5 billion parent tronc, inc., it was not his first time working with the executive who engaged him on the project. They had previously worked together on successful turn-arounds of publications in Texas and New Jersey.
Flash has worked for several firms while operating his successful Research Valley media outlets including Valpak, Ad Pages Savings Magazines, Elegant Living Publishing, and Money Mailer Franchise Corp.
For Flash, the greatest indicator of a successful client relationship, one where the client is making money and knows it, is that the client keeps renewing or coming back for more. This is true of advertising clients and consulting clients. Valpak, Ad Pages Savings Magazines, and Elegant Living Publishing have all engaged Flash on at least three projects each.
